The Perfect Burger

There's something to be said about the quest to seek the perfect burger. It may not be a noble pursuit, however it is a rather rewarding/filling one.

What constitutes the perfect burger?
Is it the meat, the trimmings, the presentation or a combination of all of those things?

New York Times Food and Travel writer Jane Sigal wrote a good article on the subject in The Perfect Burger and All it's parts. However, seeing as I live in London and am not prepared to make a transatlantic crossing to try the perfect burger, we need to keep it local.

Kalifornication
Young and Foodish has compiled a thorough list of some of London's best places to enjoy a good burger. Although I must confess I am surprised that Lucky 7 is not on the list because if you ask me you can't really argue with burger porn like this →

Their Kalifornian (bacon, cheese, guacamole, roasted tomato and sour cream) is very special. Although, the fact that Lucky 7 is only just down the road from me does make me slightly biased.

One restaurant that is on the list is Goodman Steak Restaurant in Mayfair and having recently tasted their burger with sautéed mushrooms and cheddar cheese I can honestly say it was the best burger I have ever tasted. The meat was made to perfection, the garnishing wasn't overdone and the sides were complimentary rather than excessive. With a great glass of French red you couldn't really ask for much more from a burger meal. Very special.

Goodman Express!

Nevertheless, there are still so many other burger joints I want to try out before I am confident enough to leave any relevant opinion on the superior London burger. And with that in mind, I'm going for a run...
