One man's yawning makes another (cat) yawn - Erasmus
Yawning is contagious in cats.
I have conducted studies on Willem, my overweight, male, tabby domestic cat.
He sleeps a lot and thus yawns a lot, granted, but I have done extensive face to face tests on him and he has portrayed imitative responses on numerous occasions which leads me to believe that motor (mirror) neurons located in the frontal cortex of the brain are activated in response to certain visual stimuli.
My experiment consisted of me looking him in the eyes and (fake) yawning numerous times and then observing his behaviour. See below for photographic evidence of my results...
Following these findings I am hoping to test my theory that domestic cats can wink.
Stay classy.
