Book review: The Priory of the Orange Tree

Since the day I discovered books I have loved science fantasy. The escapism of an epic adventure in a far away imaginary land has always made me curl up under a blanket and fly away.

I recently finished reading a wonderful fantasy book called the Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. A truly fantastic story. The world Samantha describes so eloquently is extremely detailed. The characters are developed and explored so well that you really start feeling for them and relating to them. The scenes are wonderfully put onto the page and really jump out at you. I also enjoyed the fact that the female character are progressive and dominate the story. On top of all that, there's dragons, loads of dragons and who doesn't like dragons!?

Another plus for me is that although the age old cliché goes, don't judge a book by its cover, I totally do. I love a good looking book, however silly that sounds. And this book is beautiful. I love the vibrant colours of the orange and yellow and it just added that little extra incentive, as if I needed any more, to pick it up every time I walked past it!

The only issue with the story, if I had to name one, is that the ending felt a little rushed after such a long and wonderful buildup. It really screamed for a lengthy, twisty climax and possibly a sequel or follow up book. But other than leaving you wanting more there is nothing bad to say about the book. I absolutely loved it.
